This week's Question is:
Before blogging (dark times people!) how would you find out about new books or did you?
Good old fashioned word of mouth. I got many suggestions from my cousin Axie (check out her blog Books Are Bread).
When I was very young my parents would take me to Barnes and Nobles and Borders (R.I.P.) and let me just run wild. It was the ONLY store that they let me buy (almost) whatever I wanted, so I loved going there (thinking back on it, I think they tricked me into loving reading. But I'm obviously not mad about that). So I read a lot of back-cover summaries and ended up reading a lot of weird books. (Also lots of books that were related to whatever I was obsessed about at the moment...so, mostly horse books).
And when I got older, there was always the trusty emails from Barnes and Noble and Amazon. You know, those suggested readings based on books I've read.

How did you hear about books before blogging?
Amazon did play a part in my book knowledge as well! I liked getting their recommendations based on what I read and I could be prepared for new releases!

I love knowing about books before they're released, the anticipation sometimes makes it that much sweeter when you're reading.
DeleteHow fun must it be to have your cousin to chat about books with?! I tended to get most of my books from family members before I ventured into bookstores on my own and returned with at least two books every single time! I'm an old GFC follower! DeleteAmazon had a big influence with what I'd read as well. If I'm honest, Goodreads was an even bigger influence! :D

ReplyDeleteOh sad, I'm glad you still kept up your love of reading. Sometimes you don't need a friend to talk about books because the story is enough to keep you happy. However, we're all blogging because we love the community, so it's nice to have people to talk about our book loves with.
DeleteThat's great that your parents used to take you to look around book stores. We lived quite far out of town so it was a very rare occasion when I got to go my local Waterstones. I make up for it now though! I'm an existing follower.

I remember what life was like before the internet, but I also much prefer the current convenience. Although...going to the bookstore is still the best ever.
DeleteWord of mouth didn't work so much for me as I had very different tastes to most of my friends and family. I used to head to the library or a local book store.
