Feature Follow Friday: Book Hangover Cures

Every Friday Parajunkee and Alison Can Read hosts Feature Follow Friday. It's a great way to get to know the blogging community and they ask fun questions!

This week's question is:

How do you cure a book hangover/blogging slump/reading slump? - Suggested by Take Me Away....

I see these as three different questions, so I will answer all of them separately:

Book Hangover - I define this as being emotionally drained after reading a really great book or series. I feel like I can't even think or process anything because I've just gone through so many emotions (This also happens to me when I watch a really good show).

I have a detox book that I try to read to get me down from the emotional high. Ironically, it is also a very emotional book, The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Perhaps it is because I've read the book so many times, or maybe because I feel like the book is very "real" feeling (even with the fantastical time travelling elements). Either way, it helps me detox from my book hangovers and I can go on living a normal life.

Blogging Slump - Not having any ideas of what to blog about, no time, or just no motivation to blog.

I rely heavily on Memes when this happens. And you can probably tell that I'm in a major blogging slump this month. I just try to power through and make sure I'm posting something at least once or twice a week because maybe I'll be inspired to write more posts eventually. I also try to pre-write a lot of reviews and posts when I am in an upswing, and use those as filler when I am in a blogging slump.

Reading Slump - I am always motivated to read, but I would define this as not knowing what to read next (often created by a TBR list that's just too big, or maybe being too emotionally drained aka in a Book Hangover).

I just start to read a bunch of books at the same time and whatever sticks, I just keep reading it. I have gotten into a lot of random series this way and it's actually really fun. So, for me reading slumps are often a great time :)

Feature Follow Friday: Blog Title

Every Friday Parajunkee and Alison Can Read hosts Feature Follow Friday. It's a great way to get to know the blogging community and they ask fun questions!

This week's question is:

How did you come up with your blog title and address? Does it have a special meaning for you? - Suggested by The Paperback Princess.

I pretty much just made it up on the spot when Blogger.com asked me what the name of my blog would be. I had just decided to make my own blog after co-blogging with my cousin for awhile. And I thought to myself, "This is ridiculous, I don't have enough to say that other people would be at all interested. Wait...Ridiculous sounds like it has the word 'read' in it...Done. No more thinking."
My Brain: "Really? Is that smart?"
Me: "Quiet brain! You have no more power here!"
My Brain: "Okay, but I feel like you'll regret this decision when it's time to do your taxes."
And then Readiculous Blog was born.

My randomness was then shown again when I chose this meme as my first blog post (And I stand by that decision.)

Blogger Recognition Awards

You know what I love the most about blogging...procrastinating from writing. Just kidding (mostly). It's the awesome community. And this new Blogger Recognition award is an example of that.

First off, I was nominated by Georgia May at Teen Book Hoots (Thanks Georgia!)

The whole idea is to nominate blogs that you think are fun and awesome. Give recognition to your fellow bloggers and a bonus is that if your followers know you like a blog then they might find a new awesome blog to read too :)
The Rules Are:
  1. Select up to 15 blogs you want to give the award to (you don't have to do 15, but you can do up to that amount if you know that many awesome bloggers)
  2. Write a post about how your blog got started, thank whoever has nominated you, and give some advice to new bloggers. Make sure to save the image above and include that in your post!
  3. Comment on the blogs you have picked, and leave a link back to your award post.
So, I'm really bad at talking about myself (seriously), so I will try. But no promises...

I am working in clinical research, but I've been an avid reader since I was 3 and I tricked my mom into thinking I could read my favorite book. She soon found out that I had just memorized the book and when I was supposed to turn the pages when I accidentally started on the wrong page one day and read it completely out of order. But I still think my memorization skills were just as exciting as a three year old who can read a whole book.

Anyway, I got a little off track. I wrote my first book when I was like six. My sister actually wrote the majority of it, but she graciously let me help with the story and illustrate it. Which is why I like to think that writing had always been in my blood.

I love Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, most anything that involves magic, and of course anything that involves bromance.

I started blogging with my cousin in 2013, but I started this blog in 2014 to strike out on my own!
I don't really have too much advice for new bloggers except to say write about what you love. I think that the community is awesome and that people are super supportive. Don't be afraid to take a stance about something if you're really passionate about it. And respond to comments on your blog and visit the blog of anyone who visits yours!

I hope you all have enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. Hopefully it will get slightly more organized in the future...we'll see.

And now for my Nominees:

1. Axie @ Books Are Bread

2. Jessica @ A GREAT Read

Alright, that's it for me. See ya' Space Cowboys.

Feature Follow Friday: Book Recommendation Sources

Every Friday Parajunkee and Alison Can Read hosts Feature Follow Friday. It's a great way to get to know the blogging community and they ask fun questions!

This week's Question is:

Before blogging (dark times people!) how would you find out about new books or did you?

Good old fashioned word of mouth. I got many suggestions from my cousin Axie (check out her blog Books Are Bread).
When I was very young my parents would take me to Barnes and Nobles and Borders (R.I.P.) and let me just run wild. It was the ONLY store that they let me buy (almost) whatever I wanted, so I loved going there (thinking back on it, I think they tricked me into loving reading. But I'm obviously not mad about that). So I read a lot of back-cover summaries and ended up reading a lot of weird books. (Also lots of books that were related to whatever I was obsessed about at the moment...so, mostly horse books).
And when I got older, there was always the trusty emails from Barnes and Noble and Amazon. You know, those suggested readings based on books I've read.

How did you hear about books before blogging?

On Starting Fresh & Past Reviews

You guys, sometimes it's hard to start over. I have had a lot of experience with this recently.

New City. I moved from New York City to Chicago (just up and moved, no new job yet, no apartment yet. Packed all my stuff in a car and drove away).

Which also means New Job. I was lucky enough to get a new job very soon after moving to Chicago (where I am currently staying with my awesome sister).

Also, New BLOG! This blog is new. I am not a new blogger (previously blogged with my awesome cousin on BooksAreBread.blogspot.com). However, like with the most stubborn of baby birds, sometimes the momma bird has to just shove them out of the nest to get them to fly.

So that's me. I'm tumbling out the nest. Hopefully, my little wings will catch me and I'll fly away, probably to the place with the most food and the most HGTV.

I hope you all will enjoy traveling on this journey with me. And by you all, I mean all three of you who currently follow me (Hi Axie!)

Anyway, if you want to see some of my old reviews then you can visit Books Are Bread or click on any of the below links:
